NexGen Guest

As development and operations lead for a hotel guest-experience platform, I'm moving the app from Rails 6 and MongoDB to Rails 8 and PostgreSQL, and building features like digital tipping and AI analysis of guest feedback — while hotels keep using it every day.

The situation

NexGen Guest is a guest-experience platform for hotels: a mobile-first digital concierge that guests use without downloading an app, plus analytics for hotel teams. The original app ran on Rails 6 and MongoDB and needed a modern foundation — without interrupting the hotels using it every day.

What I do

  • Lead the move to Rails 8 and PostgreSQL, rebuilding the platform piece by piece alongside the live app.
  • Built digital tipping, so guests can tip hotel staff from their phone, with payouts handled through Stripe.
  • Integrate with hotel property-management systems.
  • Added AI analysis of guest feedback and connected review sites, so hotel teams see what guests are saying without reading every comment.
  • Run deployment and operations: CI, security hardening, and feature flags that roll new features out hotel by hotel.

How it works

It’s a long-term partnership. I work directly with the NexGen team, ship in small steps, and send short demo videos for sign-off so decisions don’t wait on meetings.
